The Operation Chariot Memorial Project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we can develop and deliver our comprehensive education and engagement programme which includes a dedicated digital platform, education packs for students, growing our social media reach, digitising the archives, collecting and digitising oral histories from the descendants of Charioteers, a popup exhibition for military shows and a series of talks / lectures. Along with a permanent physical memorial we will ensure that the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the St Nazaire Raid of 1942 is remembered and preserved.
Alongside the memorial the educational resources, personal stories and interactive features will help people of all ages connect with this important history.
As the last surviving veterans of the Raid are no longer with us, it is essential that we act now to ensure their legacy lives on. Thanks to The Heritage Fund and National Lottery players, we are able to safeguard this story and pass it on to future generations.
